ADEA: Age Discrimination in Employment Act is the U.S. Federal law which prohibits age discrimination in employment. This labor law enacted by Congress in 1967 and signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson that encourages the employment of older workers and protects their civil rights by preventing age discrimination in the workplace.


Harassment: Any unwelcome conduct that is based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, or pregnancy), national origin, older age (beginning at age 40), disability, or genetic information (including family medical history).


Work Assignments: a position or post calling for specified duties to which an employee is assigned for a definite or indefinite period, but which has not been designated as a work classification.


ROFA: The employer cannot base it on a reasonable factor other than age


Civil Rights: guarantees of equal social opportunities and equal protection under the law, regardless of race, religion, or other personal characteristics.


Assumptions: older employees getting unevenly laid off and excluded from activities; and others assuming they do not understand technology.


Age Bias: is stereotyping and/or discrimination against individuals or groups based on their age.


Stereotypes: discrimination against people based on a single trait: their older age.


EEOC: The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a federal agency that was established via the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to administer and enforce civil rights laws against workplace discrimination.


Hostile Work Environment: is a workplace where there are serious instances of harassment and discrimination against protected characteristics such as race, color, religion, sex and pregnancy, national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
